Facilitation for Peace and Development - Uganda

Founded in 2004, Facilitation for Peace and Development (FAPAD) is a noteworthy NGO committed to addressing and redressing gross human rights violations in northern Uganda. FAPAD operates with a vision to foster Equitable, Inclusive, and Resilient Communities and a mission centred on improving the quality of life for marginalized communities through service delivery, as well as fortifying systems and structures. FAPAD’s multifaceted approach to community development revolves around three core programmatic pillars:

  • The promotion of Sustainable Livelihoods: FAPAD recognises the paramount importance of sustainable livelihoods in ensuring the well-being of communities. One of its primary initiatives involves empowering food-insecure households through agroecology and promoting food security, nutrition, and income generation. The organisation places special emphasis on engaging youth in income-generating activities, thus contributing to economic empowerment and community resilience.
  • Promotion of Social Justice: FAPAD actively engages in promoting social justice through various channels. The organisation is committed to gender and climate justice, advocating for the rights of marginalised communities in the face of environmental challenges. FAPAD focuses on securing land tenure for these communities, recognizing that land is not just a resource but a foundation for livelihoods. The organisation also champions the Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights of Children (SRHR Children), addressing a crucial aspect of social justice. Additionally, FAPAD holds the government accountable by advocating for improved quality and quantity of service delivery for marginalised communities.
  • Enhancement of Research Impact: Recognising the power of knowledge, FAPAD seeks to enhance the impact of research in northern Uganda. By investing in research initiatives, the organisation aims to identify effective strategies and interventions that can address the unique challenges faced by the communities it serves. Collaborating with partners such as academic institutions, FAPAD is actively involved in establishing a research hub in northern Uganda, fostering a culture of evidence-based decision-making.
