Mkwawa University College of Education - Tanzania

The history of Mkwawa University College of Education (MUCE) dates back to 2005 when it became a semi-autonomous, constituent college of the University of Dar es Salaam. The establishment of MUCE was a priority response by the government to address the problem of acute shortage of graduate teachers and experts in education sector in Tanzania. The institution admitted its first batch of students in 2006 to pursue studies leading to the award of Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Arts with Education and Bachelor of Science with Education degrees of the University of Dar es Salaam.

After about 20 years, MUCE is now a well-known university College in the nation, accredited by the Republic of Tanzania to provide higher education and carry out research in various academic fields. The College is now a member of international bodies including the Inter-University Council for East Africa, Africa Association of Universities, International Association of Universities, and the Association of Commonwealth Universities, among others.

The College is currently organized into three faculties: Faculty of Science, Faculty of Education and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The vison of MUCE is to become a leading Centre of Intellectual Wealth spearheading the Quest for Sustainable and Inclusive Development. The core function of the College is to advance knowledge and creativity through provision of higher education, research and consultancy. The College is also responsible to foster social, moral, and intellectual development of mankind.
