Small Industries Development Organization - Tanzania

Small industries development organisation (SIDO) is an independent parastatal organisation established by an act of Parliament in 1973 to plan, coordinate, promote and offer variety of services to macro, small and medium enterprises. The development objectives of the organisation are to contribute to poverty eradication and enterprises development thereby contributing to economic development through provision of demand driven services that will create employment and generate income.

SIDO offers the following services to clients:

  • Technology development and innovation: This includes technology and products development, application of new technologies, technology sourcing and upgrading, technology innovation and commercialization, incubation programmes, artisan support programmes, cluster development programme and provision of workplace for SMEs.
  • Training and extension services: SIDO provides needed tailor-made training and extension services including entrepreneurship and business management skills training programme, technical skills training programme, innovation development training program, food processing and preservation courses, marketing management, packaging, and quality control training, among others.
  • Marketing: this includes SMEs product branding programmes, promoting tendering and business cooperation among small, medium and large industries, source and availing market and investment opportunities for SMEs, promoting SMEs products and services through national and international exhibition and trade fairs, and expanding and strengthening export promotion activities for SMEs.
  • Financial services: this includes provision of financial advisory and coaching services and loan to SMEs through the National Entrepreneurship Development Fund, Regional Revolving Fund, Credit guarantee scheme, and SANVN credit programme for SMEs.
